This gig is over a year coming as it was cancelled last year due to a family illness. But as the saying goes, good things come to those who wait, and it did for all in the room tonight. An eclectic bunch, to say the least, and a good splattering of the white shirt and braces for which The Dead South are well known. With their mix of folk/country/bluegrass, they soon had the sold-out crowd singing and dancing to songs like, ‘Travellin’ Man’, ‘Son Of Ambrose’ and ‘That Bastard Son’. Tou can’t resist that hypnotic banjo sound, and it’s crazy how much atmosphere they create without jumping about or any histrionics, but they do.
The Dead South are well known for writing and performing very quirky catchy numbers like the single, ‘In Hell I’ll Be In Good Company’, which has now amassed 400+ million views, WOW. And accompanied by a cheesy dance routine in keeping with the said video, brilliant. Not that they will be worrying the top 20 anytime soon, but that doesn’t matter, when they produce albums of quality like their latest, ‘Chains & Stakes’, and go down live as well as they do, it’s almost nailed on that they will continue their upwards trajectory. The talent in this band is extraordinary, with multiple vocalists, and multi-instruments played, the crowd loved every minute of tonight and will be hoping like us a quicker return to our shores and maybe a festival or two – where’s my braces?
