Tonight is our second time of seeing Sam Ryder. Last time it was his first tour after Eurovision, and he really impressed us with his energy and cracker of a voice. But since then, he has sort of dropped off the radar a bit, obviously with experience we surmised he was working on a new album and yes, he was. Tonight, he aired some of his new stuff, the titles we never caught, but they went down well enough to suggest that the public will take to them. Again, full of energy, exchanging banter with the crowd, he wowed them all.
Of course, the older favourites were there including, ‘Mountain’, and the song that exposed him to the masses, ‘Space Man’. He also threw in a few covers, such as a sing along version of Paul Simon’s ‘You Can Call Me Al’.
This small tour was obviously a chance to test out new material and just to remind the public he’s still around, and sure it worked. So, we must wait until next year for the release of the new album, and the promoting tour, which will no doubt follow, to get the chance to see him live again.
We wouldn’t expect a seismic shift on the new album, just another step on his way up the ladder for this very genuine, talented and extremely likeable young man.
