We came across Lyra almost by mistake, and our ears pricked up at her quite deep at times vocal, with a hint of Freya Ridings and Florence. Delving deeper it appears she has been round for a little while, and she seemed to be on a fast track to big things then the THING happened. And yes, it affected lots of artists, but in Lyra’s case it meant she couldn’t perform live, which was not where she is at or wanted to be and put the brakes on as she had lots of big festival appearances lined-up, which would have broken her quicker. Well, here she is tonight doing it the way she wants to, building-up her following and in a nearly sold-out Institute she proves how good she is, with a cracking performance and terrific vocal, she has the audience enthralled. In between explaining about her songwriting technique, with a little colourful language, which she apologises for, but her defence is she is Irish, and its expected anyway. She has a sense of humour, which after informing us how she couldn’t or wouldn’t play the corporate game, is to be commended.
Her songs are excellent and have been used on many TV ads and programs. We recently covered Ava Max and up-and-coming Brit starlet Mimi Webb, and to be honest she stands up against these heavy hitters’ hits. It’s just exposure making the difference, because she has the tools, the voice, the tunes, and the personality. We will be keeping a sharp eye on Ms Lyra and will definitely be going to see her again as she rises the ranks, nice one Lyra.
