There was a buzz of anticipation tonight in the Institute like static in the air, waiting for the two-time Eurovision winner, Loreen. We were treated to a set covering big chunks of her career so far, most of it with a euro-electro beat, interspersed by some phenomenal ethereal vocals. Looking like a human/robot hybrid, with extra-long nails, and long wind machine flowing locks. But apart from the imagery, which was stunning, her vocals are out of this world. Along with the high energy euro dance flavoured numbers, she showed her introspective side with ‘Hate The Way I Love You’, showing an emotional side to her, but she soon went back into the fast mode, and literally launched, ‘Euphoria’ into the stratosphere, and the sold out crowd with it, only word for it was immense.
For the encore, she again showed a vulnerable side of her personality with, ‘Is It Love’, before ending the night, obviously, with, ‘Tattoo’. And what a way to end, with “ooh, ooh, oohs” being screamed back by the euphoric crowd – see what I did there? What an astonishing performer she is. Yes, she will forever be linked to the Eurovision, but she is far more than that as witnessed by the euphoric – I’ve got to stop doing that – crowd.
