When the Kaiser Chiefs are in town you are pretty much guaranteed a party, and frontman Ricky Wilson will run and jump and do whatever it takes to make sure it is. With their excellent back catalogue of sing along songs, it’s not long before the crowd are joining in with Wilson and the boys.
With no real album to promote since their last one ‘Employment’, which is basically a greatest tune collection, even their new single ‘How 2 Dance’ hits the mark with a rubber legged Wilson demonstrating his moves. And with a very Northern styled staging, and nice black and white large screens capturing every move, it didn’t take long for them to unleash the big guns like ‘Never Miss A Beat’, ‘Modern Way’, ‘The Factory Gates’, ‘Ruby’, ‘Every Day I Love You Less’, ‘I Predict A Riot’ and ‘The Angry Mob’. The crowd by now jumping up and down, chanting and singing more like a football match than a concert! The only easing up was an acoustic ‘Coming Home’, but that was only a brief respite, and when, as he does, Wilson stepping up onto an upturned monitor, conducts the audience in another sing along with ‘People Know How To Love One Another’.
You must have thought by now the audience had run out of steam, but for the finale of ‘Oh My God’, somehow, they found some more, and then it was over. Judging with the big smiles on the folk here tonight, they went home very happy, as we did. Long live the Kaisers!
