Gun plus support from Kira Mac

We decided to go along and see Gun tonight for the reasons that we write about later but felt more confident because of Kira Mac supporting. We have seen and covered Kira Mac on a couple of occasions and when they rocked at Steelhouse Festival, so we knew we were going to enjoy this, and we did. We are waiting for the new album from Kira Mac, so were interested in hearing any new music tasters, and yes, we had a couple, and they went down well, fitting into the set with the other well-known songs extremely well. Always great to watch live, and tonight again didn’t let us down, rocking the KK’s and the crowd loved it. Roll on the new album.

This was a weird one for us as fans of Gun from the early chart successful time and seeing them on a few occasions, they were absolutely brilliant. When Rankin left and the band took an extended break, they re-emerged and started playing live and releasing new material again. Not only did we have less time and were into much more diverse types of music doing what we do for GetToTheFront, but on occasion when they were playing, we were tempted to go and see them, especially after having really positive reviews of their new releases, but always stepped back. I suppose with a mixture of trepidation and hankering for the old memories, but tonight we took the plunge, and my goodness we were glad we did. With Dante Gizzi on vocals, brother Giuliano on guitar, and both founding members at the helm, at times sharing typical Scottish humorous banter, which only added to the enjoyment, but musically they were brilliant. Old songs and newer songs mingled into each other, and didn’t sound dated at all, it showed how good their older songs are, and Dante on vocals doing a fantastic job. He has a great rapport with the crowd, who not only sang the older classics, but they also knew the new songs and participated enormously.

With the new album, ‘Hombres’, getting great reviews and singles getting played regularly on rock stations, the future is rosy for the band. Considering how long they have been going it is no mean feat, with fears put aside and memories not only kept but added to, we go out into the night, all “Gunned” up, get it?

Footnote: Due to a memory card failure only one shot of Gun survived – apologies.
