In the Dead Wax tonight we were treated to a night of “swamp blues”, albeit performed by a couple of men from wait for it – Bristol! Not Louisiana or anywhere as you would expect. With what looked like 50% of their equipment, like guitar, petrol can drum, chain stick and a sheet of metal, which when hit sounded like thunder, they sound very authentic, and what a glorious sound it is.
This small tour to support the release of a mini album, the 5 track ‘Roses In The Bonecart’, is quality, and will only enhance their growing following, and judging by the full Dead Wax room tonight, the word is getting out, which it should do, and the Moncrieff brothers have something unique as I can’t think of anything like them on the UK circuit. So, if you want to experience some southern swamp blues, which is very intoxicating, make sure you catch them if they play at a festival near you. I guarantee you won’t regret it.
