Tickets are cheap, cheap, cheap. Plus he’ll be playing the smaller layouts in the arenas like Russell Howard does.

You have to be very funny for it to come off in an arena I have found in the past

I’ve never seen a decent arena show. Saw CHris Rock, Eddie Izzard and Rickey Gervais and didn’t think much of any of the performances

You ok STEVEN? Most TV is rubbish and I choose not to be brainwashed into watching adverts etc.
GO ON STEVEN BUY A NEWSPAPER THAT’S NOT THE SUN, THE STAR OR THE SPORT

Yay your manner leaves a lot to be desired.

I asked a question about the dude as I had no idea who he was. Some people replied in a decent manner but this Steven guy, for some reaon I can’t comprehend, took it as though I was attacking his mother. And I’ve only ever done that once.

What…attack his mother only once!!
I concur…that behaviour leaves a lot to be desired

Yay – like many that think this site is great I don’t post very often but feel drawn to do so this time. You have an arrogant approach so don’t be surprised if people line up to have ago when you are not aware of one of the best comedians around. You would have done the same if it involved somebody you knew well. You spent the last two weeks attacking other posters on here you reap what you sow!!

To be fair STEVEN did react very oddly. Maybe he’s John Bishop in disguise

I thought Bez was John Bishop in disguise

I stand by my question. It’s unheard of for someone to go straight to Arena shows. Other comedians were outraged that Michael McIntyre climed so quickly but this dude has done it even quicker. I looked at a link on youtube and he seemed funny but not special and am honestly amazed at how he can be doing these shows.
And STEVEN although I did attack your mum that time she didn’t mind.

He has indeed been selling smaller venues out very quickly, and in May he’s playing the Hammersmith Apollo, Liverpool Echo Arena and Apollo Manchester, they are hardly insignificant venues and so to then to move onto arenas isn’t unsurprising or unheard of. He’s been on TV enough and doing the panel show circuit and he’s fairly funny.
Comedy has truly become the new rock and roll. They thought that when Newman and Baddiel played Wembley back in the day, but now virtually any comedian is able to do Hammersmith and many of them arenas. I do understand where Yay is coming from as arenas really were the forum for just the biggest of big comedians a couple of years ago but now almost any comedian with a decent number of tv appearances is getting arena gigs.
Russel Howard played my local theatre, about 500 people and 15 miles east of London about 12 months back now he’s doing the 02. At the same theatre, in the smaller studio (maybe 200 people) they hold a comedy night where Stephen K Amos played. He’s doing multiple nights at Hammersmith. Many other big names now playing multiple nights at Hammermith or doing arenas have played here in the past year to 18 months.
I believe it’s just that comedy really has become incredibly popular. It’s all down to being in a recession, people want to made to laugh. The last time comedy was becoming like this, the Newman and Baddiel era, we were all suffering under the mess caused by Thatcher’s government. It really is a nations need to laugh in the face of adversity. I see a thesis here…

But he hasnt gone straight to arena shows though! He’s currently touring theatres - most of which have sold out!

On going straight to the O2…although the O2 has a capacity of up to 20,000, it can easily accommodate a more ‘theatre size’ crowd.
I was at Peter Gabriel last night, and the whole of the upper tier was curtained off. I was initially sat in the A2 block, but as the morons in front of me kept holding up their camera phones and the seats were not very comfortable, at the interval we moved to some spare seats at the rear in 108. It was a different view, but I felt a lot more comfortable.
They can also bring the stage forward for a half-theatre.
I don’t know what the set-up will be for Bishop, but it may not be full arena seating.
