Interview: Lemar

Posted by GetToTheFront On March - 7 - 2010

lemar_mainGetToTheFront: Your new album has three new tracks on as well as your greatest hits but if you had to pick your favourite track from the album what would it be and why?

Lemar: My personal favourite track would be Mayday. I am very proud of that song. If I hadn’t written it and I heard it somewhere, recorded by someone else, I’d probably wish that I’d written it.
The song that holds the most memories for me though, is Dance with you. It was my first time doing so many things. Loads of travelling, my first new video, my first full on tour. Great memories.

GTTF: Who would be your dream collaboration with any artist/ band past or present?

Lemar: I’d like to collaborate with Marvin Gaye. That would be a dream. He was ridiculously talented.

GTTF: You have been in the industry for a while now what would you say was your biggest highlight so far?

Lemar: Biggest highlight for me as I think now would be my most recent tour and getting to play at The Royal Albert Hall. Performing live is the most satisfying thing as an artist. I love it. And to see a venue like that, packed to the rafters for you is a beautiful thing.

GTTF: From all the videos that you have shot what has been your favorite to make and why?

Lemar: The video for my most recent single - The Way Love Goes - has to be up their with my favourites. Mainly because of the outcome. It ticked all the boxes for what I wanted to get out of it. Rage is a great video director.

GTTF: If you could be someone else for a day who would you pick and why?

Lemar: I’d be Shaquille O’Neal. Just so I could see what the world looks like walking around at that height!

GTTF: If we were to go through your IPod what songs would be on your most played playlist?

Lemar: Right now it would be Tinie Tempah - Pass Out, Alicia Keys - Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart, Skepta - Bad Boy and Erik Hassle - Hurtful

GTTF: If you could banish one band or artist form the music industry who would you pick and why?

Lemar: I’d stop the Glee thing. The programme is Ok. But releasing that music for sale?

GTTF: Have you got any tips for bands or artists we should look out for in 2010?

Lemar: Look out for Effie - Young female singer who is very talented and deserves a listen. Another lady that caught my ear is Jessie J. Currently finishing off her album I think.

GTTF: What advice would you give any inspiring artists trying to get into the industry?

Lemar: Work hard, dig deep and exercise patience. Above all else though - Work hard.

GTTF: So apart from your album release what has 2010 got in store for you?

Lemar: 2010 will be an eventful year if it goes according to plan (and it will). I have to record another album and I hope to tour after summer at some point. There are one or two other plans I have which I don’t want to jinx but, all exciting stuff. I also want to do a few more collaborations and a lot more writing with other artists. I’ve done something with Chicane which they are still crafting at the moment. I’ve also done a tune with Johnny L (cool guy). Keep your eyes and ears peeled!
