Adam Lambert is joining rock band Queen for one concert this summer, at Sonisphere 2012.

The former American Idol singer tweeted: “As many suspected, I can finally confirm: I have been invited by Queen to sing one very special concert! Sonisphere at Knebworth July 7th!”

He added: “The thought of sharing the stage for a full set is so beautifully surreal. I’m honoured to be able to pay my respects to Freddie’s memory. He’s a personal hero of mine and I am deeply grateful for the chance to sing such powerful music for fans of this legendary band.”

Adam had previously tried to play down his comments that he planned to perform a tribute to the late Freddie Mercury, the band’s lead singer.

He told his Twitter followers: “Sorry to be coy about the details the past few weeks, but I made a promise to keep it under wraps as best I could.”

Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor confirmed that the American singer-songwriter will perform vocals for the band’s headline set on the second day of the rock festival, 26 years after Queen’s final concert with Freddie Mercury at Knebworth in August 1986.

“It’s a worthy challenge for us, and I’m sure Adam would meet with Freddie’s approval! And what better place to revisit, and walk those emotional paths than Knebworth? It will be a rush,” said Brian.

Adam, 30, has sung with Queen before. In 2009 he performed We Are The Champions on the US reality show that made his name and then last November he sang an eight-minute set at the MTV Europe Awards to celebrate Queen’s Global Icon Award.

The Brit Awards has enjoyed its biggest TV audience for seven years, overnight figures showed.

The event – which was presented by James Corden and saw the big winner of the night Adele cut off in her prime – drew an average of 6.2 million viewers, including those who tuned in on +1.

It made the ITV1 show the biggest since 2005 when Chris Evans hosted and performers included Green Day and Scissor Sisters, drawing 6.3 million.

If catch-up viewers are excluded, last night’s show audience was 5.9 million, making it the biggest since 2008.

Double winner Adele, whose haul included the big prize of the night for best album, had her speech curtailed when the show was in danger of overrunning its time slot.

Channel 4′s Dispatches is to investigate fan-to-fan ticket reselling via the internet in an upcoming episode this week.

News correspondent Morland Sanders will probe a number of fan-to-fan exchange websites on which previously purchased tickets are sold on.

The investigation comes after many gig-goers reported being unable to get tickets through established ticket selling sites after events sold out – only to find them on offer at much higher prices on fan-to-fan sites.

People desperate to be in the crowd at a certain gig or cup final often pay far more than the face value price by using such sites, the investigation will reveal.

Dispatches reporters have tried to establish why vast numbers of tickets appear on fan-to-fan sites so soon after an event has sold out. They will also investigate who is selling tickets via the sites.

The episode will be shown at 9pm on Thursday on Channel 4.

Slash fans will be pleased to hear that his second solo album Apocalyptic Love is to be released on May 21.

A follow-up to the former Guns N’ Roses star’s solo debut, the new record will see Alter Bridge frontman Myles Kennedy offer vocals on all of its tracks.

It will be released through Slash’s own label DikHayd International, and distributed through Roadrunner Records in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Kennedy is no stranger to recording with the legendary axeman – he previously guested on two tracks on the guitarist’s first solo outing.

He also acted as the live singer during Slash’s subsequent world tour. This is a role that’ll be repeated later this year.

Slash released his self-titled debut solo album in 2010.

Adele took the first of the honours at the 2012 Brit Awards as she landed the best female artist prize.

The record-breaking 23-year-old – up for three prizes – looked delighted by her success and shrieked: “Oh my Gawd.”

Collecting the award at London’s O2 Arena from Kylie Minogue, she joked: “I feel like a drag queen next to you.” She added: “It’s been an amazing year. Thank you. I’d like to thank my record company for letting me be the kind of artist I want to be.”

Coldplay kicked off the show with their track Charlie Brown, performing in the round, shortly followed by a performance by Florence + The Machine on a stage decked with Greek columns.

Bruno Mars picked up the title of best international male act, and told guests: “It’s been my dream to come here.”

One Direction pulled off a surprise by landing the best British single for What Makes You Beautiful. The X Factor heartthrobs landed the prize in a public vote.

Rihanna took the best international female title for the second year running. Coldplay took the prize for best British group after previous wins in 2003 and 2001, while Foo Fighters were named best international group.

Ed Sheeran found himself up on stage to collect two awards. He was named best British male solo artist before landing the Brit for best British breakthrough act. US singer Lana Del Rey won the Brit Award for international breakthrough act.

Blur were rewarded with the outstanding contribution prize before Adele rounded off her night of success by landing the key award of the ceremony, best album.

The singer gave a middle-finger gesture after she was cut off by show bosses, due to a rambling acceptance by Blur’s Damon Albarn. Afterwards she explained that the insult was aimed at “the suits” putting together the show.

The annual charity event at Royal Albert Hall, London takes place between March 28th – April 3rd.

Veteran fans of the Rolling Stones and new converts in the age of digital music will be united in celebration after guitarist Ronnie Wood hinted the band could tour again.

Wood, 64, told the Radio Times that the band members have been jamming together again over the past couple of months after arranging a get-together just before Christmas.

He said: “It was great, keeping our chops together, that’s what we love. We’re all happy – we were happy before Christmas. It’s getting better each time.”

When asked if the band had considered a world tour in the 50th year since their formation, Wood said: “Be lovely, wouldn’t it? That’s what we’re on the verge of. I dunno what the hell is gonna happen yet but we all feel we owe it to ourselves and to the people to do something.

“They’re still in the talking mode. And I don’t know, each week brings a new development. Basically, get the boys feeling comfortable with each other, ’cause we’re all ready to go individually. It’s just a matter of tying up loose ends and coming together as a unit.”

Wood joined the ranks – alongside Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman – back in the 1970s.
