EP: The Detours – Ignite
Writing a rock song while maintaing your pop sensibilities is never an easy task to master. Many sacrifice a contagious chorus in fear of their hardcore fans fleeing and others become too absorbed in their desire to appeal to everyone that they lose sight of being a ‘rock’ band altogether. What does ‘rock’ even mean as we enter 2012? The Detours, however, manage to make a compromise, and not one that damages their artistic integrity. They meet somewhere in the ideal middle – their music is catchy, but never poppy and heavy, but never alienating.
Their debut EP, “Ignite” opens up with the exceptionally contagious “One Last Chance” which boasts a chart-hit-size chorus backed up with electrifying guitar riffs. The release then moves into the equally-strong title track before finishing off with “Free”, which is arguably the weakest song of the three but still has its moment in the sun.
Whether you’re into indie, pop, rock or whatever it is that currently floats your musical boat, you will most likely find something you enjoy during this fresh offering from The Detours. “Ignite” is not perfect but who said it was going to be? For a first-time release, this is promising and certainly worth listening to.

Bieber tickets on sale next week? His tour manager said they would be on sale in May!
I thought you'd say that's alright because they like the way it hurts... And with this I rest my case.. lol
Presumably they'd be OK under their umbrellas-ellas-ellas, hey, hey hey. Sorry, couldn't resist...
I would go to that gig just to witness the myriad of Rihanna's wannabes with high heels and what not, struggling in the hyde park mud wishing they stayed at home taking care of their hair/nails! :)
I think the much-publicised fact that she is playing Wireless festival in July 12 was a pretty big hint? :-)
